Last year, a Queer Theory Reading Group was formed at UCT and held a few meetings. They recently moved to Observatory. Here’s what they’re about and how to get in touch with them:
Our reading group meets fortnightly and reads queer theory with a focus on theory emerging from the South, although we also read foundational texts (Butler, Rubin, etc.) We’ll decide on a reading for the evening soon.
We share an interest in radically interrogating the intersections of oppression and privilege, marginalisation and inclusion, in order to challenge heteronormativity, patriarchy and white supremacy. We come from various disciplines and include undergrads, postgrads and non-students. The reading group is open to anyone who shares our values and is committed to reading the texts we explore each week. If you’re interested in joining, drop the bolo’bolo collective a mail at email@example.com.
