Meeting announcements

The next meeting of the WITS Queer Theory Reading Group will take place on the 22nd May at 5:30 in room SH3176 Senate House.

 

The reading will be: “Playing queer: Affordances for sexuality in Fable and Dragon Age” by Stephen Greer. The article deals with non-heterosexual identities in mass market role-playing games.

The next QTRG meeting will take place on Thursday 26 September at 17:00 in SH3176 (Senate House – 3rd floor).

We will be discussing Jason Ritchie‘s article entitled “How Do You Say “Come Out of the Closet” in Arabic? Queer Activism and the Politics of Visibility in Israel-Palestine” published in GLQ: A journal of lesbian and gay studies in 2010.

The next QTRG meeting will take place on Thursday 29 August in SH3176 (Senate House – 3rd floor) at 17:00.

We will be discussing Lisa W. Loutzenheiser‘s article entitled “If I teach about these issues they will burn down my house”: the possibilities and tensions of queered, antiracist pedagogy.

The next QTRG meeting will take place on Thursday 25 July in the SW Engineering Building’s Seminar Room from 17:00.

We will be discussing Robert Heasley’s chapter entitled “Crossing the borders of gendered sexuality: Queer masculinities of straight men”, published in 2013 in “Thinking Straight: the power, promise and paradox of heterosexuality” by Chrys Ingraham. Dean will present the chapter before discussion.

The fourth meeting of the Wits Queer Theory Reading Group will take place on May 30th from 17:00 to 18:30 in the Graduate Center Seminar Room in the SW Engineering Building.

We will read and discuss Heidi J. Nast’s article entitled “Critical Pet Studies?”, published in Antipode (A Radical Journal of Geography) in 2006 [28(5), 894-906]. Tracey, who chose the article, will give a brief introduction.

The third meeting of the Wits Queer Theory Reading Group will take place on April 25th from 5pm to 6:30pm in the Graduate Center Seminar Room in the SW Engineering Building.

We will read and discuss Zakiyyah Iman Jackson’s article entitled “Waking Nightmares”, published in GLQ: A journal of gay and lesbian studies in 2005 [13(2-3), 357-363]. Haley, who chose the article, will give a brief introduction.
